Providing sports, leisure & social opportunities for children and young people with disabilities living in Durham and the surrounding areas

Over 18s first residential with DADLG

In December 2025 we were extremely lucky to be awarded a £4000 grant towards expanding our Over 18s Club to provide more social actvities and increase membership over the course of six months. We were one of three charities selected by Bridge Creative and Inclusion North to deliver our pitch at a lovely afternoon event at Lanchester Community Centre.

We decided that part of the grant should be used towards a residential activity because our members often tell us they want to go away somewhere together as a group of adults with the help and support of DADLG.  We chose Bendrigg Residential Activity Centre because it has the widest possible appeal to our membership and has something for everyone.  For those less keen on actvities, there were evening social getherings to look forward to. Bendrigg is a fully accessible centre specialising in adapted actvities for people with both phsycial and learing disabilities and so everyone who came was well looked after and had an absolutely fantastic weekend.

We chose a varied selection of actvities from Bendrigg’s extensive menu so that all attendees could do something they would love. Everyone, including carers, took part and went outside of their comfort zone in trying new things. Evenings were spent gathered around the campfire, socialising and toasting marshmallows followed by a spot of karaoke and some brilliant dance moves in the common room. On leaving day we did a quick feedback round to make sure everyone had a good time. The “yes” was unanimous and the only criticism was that it was far too short!
